After having wisdom teeth or other teeth extracted, Dr. Khalid Sajjad of Battle Creek, Michigan, will provide patients with aftercare instructions to follow at home. This ensures proper healing and recovery. But first, let’s take a closer look at wisdom teeth and common questions we hear from our patients.
Wisdom teeth, also known to dentists and patients as third molars, typically come in the later teenage years or early twenties. However, due to both evolution and changes in our diet, many people no longer have enough room for these teeth in their smiles. This increases the risk of complications, such as overcrowding, infection, impaction, and damage to surrounding teeth. Dr. Khalid Sajjad and his dental team may recommend extraction if these wisdom teeth are impacted or have grown in at an angle that affects the alignment of the other teeth.
It’s a common misconception that wisdom teeth can grow back after they have been extracted. In reality, once your wisdom teeth have been removed, they will not grow back. This is because the wisdom teeth are the last set of permanent teeth to emerge, and they usually erupt during the late teenage years or early twenties. Once these teeth have fully emerged, there is no need for them to grow back as our jawbones stop growing by this point.
After your procedure, Dr. Khalid Sajjad and his team will provide aftercare instructions to follow. These are important, as they ensure the area heals properly and reduce the risk of potential problems and complications, such as dry sockets or infections.
