If you stop and look around today, it’s easy to see how much things have changed over the last 20 or 30 years. For example, not too long ago, dentures were the only option for a full-mouth tooth replacement.
However, today, we can offer our clients a much better option. Full-mouth dental implants represent the latest advancement in tooth replacement technology, capable of replacing up to a full mouth of missing teeth.
At Earl E. Gaball, DDS, our team will work with you to find the right customized plan for your needs. Full-mouth dental implants can give you a secure, permanent, and natural-looking smile.
Below, we will tackle some of the common questions our clients have about the process and benefits of full-mouth dental implants.
Full-mouth dental implants can replace all teeth in your mouth. You can also replace just your upper or lower teeth.
And while it’s possible to completely replace every tooth with an implant, the most practical solution involves custom-crafted dentures held down by strategically placed dental implants. This restoration is called implant-supported dentures.
These implants are titanium posts placed into the jawbone, acting like tooth roots, which then support a custom-made bridge or denture.
Unlike traditional dentures, which sit on top of the gums, implants are permanently anchored, offering stability and a natural feel.
Think of it like switching from a temporary fix, like a tarp on a roof with a hole in it, to a long-term, secure solution, like a brand new, stronger roof that can handle anything life throws its way.
The time it takes to complete the process may vary depending on your specific situation, but each implant usually takes a few months from start to finish.
Following your first consultation, Dr. Sajjad will place your implants, which are inserted directly into your jawbone. The titanium post will bond with your jawbone during the healing process to create a stronger foundation for your replacement tooth.
In the meantime, you will have a temporary crown that protects the post during this process.
The osseointegration process may take 3-6 months, depending on factors such as bone density. After everything heals up, your temporary crown is removed and replaced with your custom-crafted permanent replacement.
Best of all, several teeth can be replaced at once, saving a lot of time and discomfort.
Just think of it like building a brand new home. You’ll want to ensure it has a stable foundation before building anything else, right?
Patience is key during the healing process. You should avoid certain sticky or hard foods that can impact the alignment and stability of your implants.
During the implant procedure, we will give you local anesthesia; this way, you’ll feel little, if any, discomfort.Â
However, you may feel some minor discomfort, along with swelling or bruising, in the days following the procedure. But don’t worry—for most clients, this discomfort can be managed using only over-the-counter medication.
As you heal, your discomfort should lessen, provided you follow the doctor’s post-care instructions.
Patients often compare the post-procedure discomfort to having a tooth extracted—it’s temporary and well worth the long-term gain.
