Sedation Dentistry

Ease Your Fear of the Dentist with Conscious Sedation Options!

This might surprise you, but our Battle Creek, Michigan office encounters patients who haven’t seen a dentist for over 15 years! These patients put off dental appointments until they experience severe dental problems that are hard to ignore. When we interact with these patients, most attribute their long absence from a dental office to dental fear and anxiety.

Just like some people fear heights, crowded spaces, open spaces, and so on, the fear of the dentist is real and can put your oral health on edge. But the good news is that sedation dentistry from Earl E. Gaball, DDS helps patients overcome dental fear and anxiety.

Signs of dental anxiety or fear

Many people have dental fear and don’t even know it. If you exhibit any of the following symptoms, you are a perfect candidate for painless dentistry. You need sedation dentistry if you:

  • Regularly postpone dental appointments because of apprehension or other excuses
  • Haven’t seen a dentist in years, and a crucial dental procedure is overdue
  • Had past negative experiences in a dental office
  • Have a strong gag reflex
  • Have overly sensitive teeth
  • Become anxious before or during a dental appointment

If you are battling dental fear in Battle Creek, Michigan, you don’t have to continue putting off those crucial dental appointments. Instead, please book an appointment with Dr. Earl Gaball for a comforting experience at a dentist’s office.

Sedation dentistry options in our dental office

Unless you are under general anesthesia, our conscious sedation options keep you awake through the procedure, but you remain relaxed and untroubled. Our sedation dentistry options include:

  • Nitrous oxide: This option involves inhaling a gas through a mask, and a calming effect begins within 3-5 minutes. Once your treatment is over, the dentist gives you pure oxygen to neutralize the effects of nitrous oxide. As such, the sedation wears out immediately you remove the mask, and you don’t have to make any transport arrangements since you can drive yourself home.
  • Oral sedation: Here, the dentist prescribes an oral pill that you take about one hour before the procedure. You may feel sleepy during the procedure, but you can awaken with a slight nudge. After the treatment, you will remember little about the procedure.
