Sedation Dentistry

Oral Sedation Dentistry, Your Ticket to Stress-Free Dental Care

Dental care is a must if you want strong, healthy teeth. Yet many people avoid dentists due to dental anxiety and fear. Sedation dentistry can help resolve these issues so you can get quality dental care regularly. Earl E. Gaball, DDS, offers oral sedation dentistry services to our patients in Battle Creek, Michigan, and nearby communities.

About Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during their dental appointments. After reviewing your medical history and assessing your oral health needs, Dr. Gaball can help you choose a sedation option you feel comfortable with that’s conducive to your needs. At our clinic, we use inhalation sedation (the use of nitrous oxide gas) and oral sedation for patients with dental anxiety.

Nitrous oxide, aka laughing gas, is a mild sedative used for less intrusive dental procedures, such as dental hygiene procedures or dental fillings. The gas is mixed with oxygen and administered through a mask worn over your nose. When inhaled, the gas produces a euphoric feeling to replace anxiety and fear. After your procedure, Dr. Gaball will give you pure oxygen to breathe to counter the effects of nitrous oxide, so you can drive home safely.

For oral sedation, you’ll be given a pill to take before your dental procedure. This pill produces drowsiness and a deep sense of relaxation to help you endure lengthy or multiple dental procedures without feeling stressed, fearful, or anxious. As the effects of this sedation wear off slowly, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
